Not Just My Thoughts....afterall....

Hmmmm....if I didn't know better I'd say this article succinctly captures many of the things I've been trying to get across in this Blog for some time now. Give it a read and some thought...then put on your red thinking cap (the one with the big N of the front---the one K.K. says stands for "knowledge") and see what application it has for you...and more importantly what it means to you and the work you perform in this Agency.

....I can't wait to see the innovation and suggestion that materialize as a result of your thought...

I agree. This is where I see SharePoint as a potential turning point for MDC.

Why?

SharePoint is a new way of providing tools to employees. It is no longer just IT writing applications as needs arise, it is an empowerment tool that can grow and morf into whatever the needs of the business is. And because it is a framework, the foundational code is built-in so it does not need to be re-written over again with every application.

The article discusses "social networks, RSS, microblogs, wikis and mashups", web 2.0, mobile devices, etc. SharePoint is all of these.

The article also says "Start looking at things in 30-day increments, not six-month increments," Patterson says. "There are always projects that are 90-, 180-, 360-day projects, but how do you handle those things that should be done in a week?"

That is how we need to think of SharePoint, It is possible to make a solution in a few days to meet a user's need (or help them to do it themselves) rather than spending 6 months to create an entire application.

There is much we don't yet understand about using this new technology but for those who are willing to look at different way of doing things than the way we have always done them, I believe this technology will open new doors and quicker response to the needs of MDC employees.
